York Evening Press, May 2000 - Mr Yellow returns with a splash of colour
Turning the town yellow is the latest way to raise cash for our Hospice 2000 Appeal. York's most popular street performer Mr Yellow is giving his wholehearted support to this mellow initiative based on the colour of sunflowers, the symbol of the national hospice movement.
Fundraisers at York's own St. Leonard's Hospice want to see a Yellow flood across the whole of its area, from Thirsk to Selby & Tadcaster to Pocklington, on Wednesday, June 21. Any Yellow clothing, from a hair ribbon or a pair of socks to a yellow suit, or like Mr Yellow himself a complete yellow outfit & body, will show support for the appeal. Organisers hope that people will donate generously as they go yellow for the day.
Mime artist Mr Yellow is currently working in Ireland, but is returning to York to encourage everyone to take part in the "WEAR YELLOW DAY" & will be out & about on June 21. "Yellow is a very inspirational & Happy colour", said Mark Wallis, the alter ego of Mr Yellow, who has worked all over the world giving his special brand of corporate training to many companies, including software giants Microsoft."
"St. Leonard's hopes many schools & community groups will join in the day & help to collect for the Millennium Appeal. Fundraising organiser Janet Morley said: "We hope to see Yellow everywhere we look on WEAR YELLOW DAY. Its very easy to take part, & will make a real difference to our Millennium Appeal. We are delighted that Mr Yellow will come back from Ireland specially to be with us & to add his own distinctive flavour to the day. He has generously donated his time. Now we hope everyone will follow his example & give as much as they can spare to enable us to mett our target of £2 million so that we can redevelop the hospice & care for even more local people."
